Breaking previous thinness records, LG Display has revealed a prototype 42-inch LCD panel that is only 2.6mm thick. Pictured below, the ’Extreme Slim’ LCD TV weights under 4kg, has LEDs placed around the edges to provide ’backlighting’, has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD), a 120 Hz refresh rate, and can be wall mounted.

LG Display is planning to showcase the Extreme Slim LCD TV at CES 2010 early next month. No word yet about if and when the 2.6mm panel will enter mass production.
