Notebook ODMs expected to see strong shipment growth in June

digitimes With low comparison bases set in May, notebook makers are expected to see their shipments increase significantly on month in June with Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics and Wistron to all achieve double-digit percentage growths, according to market watchers.

The market watchers pointed out that notebook makers' new dual-core Ivy Bridge-based notebook orders began shipping in June, but since channel retailers are turning conservative about demand in July and August, shipment volumes in the two months are unlikely to achieve strong performance.

However, benefiting from back-to-school demand in October, notebook makers are expected to start enjoying shipment growth again in September.

Quanta shipped 9.5 million notebooks in April and May combined, and expects to achieve 5% sequential growth in the second quarter, therefor the company is expected to see shipments of 5.36 million units in June, up 19% on month from 4.5 million units in May, noted the market watchers.

Compal expects its second-quarter shipments to grow 8-10% sequentially, allowing its June shipments to reach 3.5-3.6 million units, up 16-20% on month.

Although Wistron expects its notebook shipments in the second quarter to suffer a 10% sequential drop, the company is expected to achieve a shipment volume of 2.85 million units, up 24% from 2.3 million units in May. Inventec is expected to ship 1.5 million notebooks in June, a similar volume as in May.
