AIO PCs sales in 2013 to grow over 20% due to Windows 8, say Taiwan makers

While it is uncertain whether Windows 8 can push up demand for notebooks, the new operating system is expected to drive up global sales of all-in-one (AIO) PCs in 2013 by more than 20% from 2012, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

A720-3 AIO PCs are equipped with touch screens and not expensive, the sources said, adding a 20-inch model sells for about US$500.

In view of slowing growth in notebook sales, international vendors including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asustek Computer and Samsung Electronics will launch AIO PC models and Apple plans to modify its iMac series, the sources pointed out. Apple shipped 2.232 million iMac PCs in the first half of 2012, becoming the largest AIO PC vendor, the sources noted.

Taiwan-based ODMs Inventec and Wistron expect to ship two million and 2-3 million AIO PCs respectively in 2012, the sources pointed out.
