Vendors to push convertible all-in-one PCs in the summer
All-in-one PC brand vendors including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Lenovo, Asustek Computer and Sony, are preparing to release convertible all-in-one PCs in summer 2013, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
The vendors' new convertible all-in-one PCs can be separated into two major types, ones with a design that allows the machine to completely lay flat, and ones with which users can detach the display and use it as a large-size tablet.
Lenovo's IdeaCentre Horizon Tablet PC announced at CES 2013 is an example of a lay-flat model, while Asustek's new convertible all-in-one PC has adopted a design to feature characteristics of both desktops and tablets.
Sources from hinge suppliers also noted that their orders for all-in-one PCs will enjoy strong growth in 2013, and all the all-in-one PC brand vendors, except Apple, will push touchscreen as a major feature.
All-in-one PC shipments reached 13.2 million units in 2012 and are expected to grow 19.7% on year to 15.8 million units in 2013 with help from Windows 8, according to Digitimes Research.
