Notebook brand vendors' new Haswell-based products have mostly been shipped and are estimated to arrive in retail channels worldwide at the end of May; however, since the new models will have a higher price level than the existing ones, most brand vendors are still taking a cautious attitude about placing orders, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
The sources pointed out that notebook ODMs' shipments will only grow slightly in May due to brand clients' conservative attitudes and their shipment performances in June will depend on the feedback of Haswell-based models from the market.
Intel also estimated that the Haswell platform will only account for less than 20% of its total desktop CPU shipments at the end of 2013.
Quanta Computer shipped 2.9 million notebooks in April, down 17% from 3.5 million units in March; Compal Electronics 3.75 million units, down 10.71% on month, and Wistron 1.9 million units, down 20.83%.
