China-based vendor Lenovo on November 7 released its financial report for the third quarter of 2013 (the second quarter of the company's 2013/2014 fiscal year), with revenues of US$9.774 billion and net profit of US$220 million hitting respective quarterly records, according to the company.
Lenovo posted a gross margin of 12.9% and net operating profit of US$283 million for the quarter. Of third-quarter revenues, 39.5% came from the China market, 23.1% from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 22% from North and Latin America and 15.4% from Asia Pacific except China.
Notebooks accounted for 51.1% of third-quarter revenues, desktops 27.7%, smartphones, tablets and digital home-use devices 15.1%, and servers and others 6.1%.
Lenovo sold 14.1 million notebooks and desktops for a global market share of 17.7% in the third quarter, making it the largest vendor in China, Japan, Brazil, Germany and Russia, and the second-largest in India.
Lenovo sold 12.3 million smartphones and 2.3 million tablets in the third quarter, hiking on year by 78% and 421%, respectively.
