China white-box tablet prices expected to drop in 2014

Pricing for white-box tablet products in China are likely to drop during 2014 as demand is expected to decrease while competition intensifies, according to China-based supply chain sources.

With profits growing thinner due to price competition, white-box vendors with weaker design capabilities will be eliminated from the market, the sources said.

Since Apple is expected to release new 9.7- and 7.9-inch iPads in the second half and reduce its existing iPad Air and iPad mini prices, the sources said that Apple's price cuts are likely to prompt competitors to follow suit and start a new wave of price competition.

Ex-factory pricing of a 7-inch white-box tablet is expected to drop to between US$30-40 in 2014 and every inch larger will add US$10 to the price range, indicating that a 10-inch white-box tablet's ex-factory price will be about US$70-80.
