China-based white-box tablet vendors, in view of stagnant demand for tablets in general and falling demand for white-box models, have offered Windows/Android dual-OS models in an attempt to stimulate demand.
With Intel and Microsoft providing subsidies for Wintel-based tablets, which is helping to absorb costs, white-box tablet vendors are hoping the new models will be able to bring in sales.
Although brand vendors such as Samsung Electronics and Asustek Computer have been looking to developing tablets using dual-OS designs, they are unable to do so due to lack of support from Google .
Seeing the white-box tablet market unable to contribute strong growth, many China-based component makers that had focused on supplying components to white-box tablet vendors, have turned to look for orders from first-tier brand vendors. China-based touch panel maker DPT recently entered the supply chains of Asustek Computer and Acer, while Holitech landed orders from ZTE, Huawei and Lenovo recently.
