Competition to grow fierce in June for 2-in-1 devices

As first-tier brand vendors are ready to release new 2-in-1 devices around June and newcomers such as Huawei, Haier, TCL and Samsung Electronics have launched own-brand 2-in-1s, sources from the upstream supply chain expect competition to become fierce in the month.

Asustek has already planned new 10- to 12-inch 2-in-1 models for release in June and is set to ship four million units in 2016.

Huawei recently launched its 12-inch MateBook 2-in-1, targeting the enterprise market, while TCL has announced the Plus 10 2-in-1. Haier is preparing to launch models specifically aiming for the inexpensive 2-in-1 sector, and Samsung also recently released new 2-in-1 devices.

The sources pointed out that demand for Windows-based 2-in-1s is expected to reach around 20 million units in 2016 and related sales should to turn strong in the third quarter when vendors are likely to start cutting prices to drive demand.
