Weighing just 1.46kg, the new laptop has been developed for mobile professionals who want a laptop that offers uncompromised functionality whilst still being ultra portable. The newcomer reflects the powerful mobile concept of the Portégé R600, including many of it’s ground-breaking technological advances, and brings it to a broader audience of mobile professionals and consumers. The Portégé A600 is expected to be available throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Although very light, the Portégé A600 is also extremely shock resistant thanks to hard disk protection triggered by 3D accelerator sensors or an optional 128 GB solid state disk (SSD) with no movable parts. Further security is provided by the latest EasyGuard features such as multi-level password protection and easy-logon via fingerprint recognition.

The Portégé A600 runs on the latest Intel® Centrino® 2 CPU and offers up to 5 GB memory and a 9.5 mm DVD SuperMulti Optical Drive. A battery life of up to eight hours also means that mobile workers can use the Portégé A600 for a full working day without the need to recharge it.

The Portégé A600 features a host of connectivity options such as an embedded mobile broadband module offering data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps, WLAN and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR to make sure that users stay connected wherever they go. Additional connectivity features such as the USB 2.0/eSATA combo interface with Sleep-and-Charge mode, Express Card reader, SD card slot and Slim Port Replicator III ensure the Portégé A600 is a comprehensive, versatile mobile computing solution.

The Portégé A600 is fully RoHS compatible, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury and certain other hazardous substances. Backlight LEDs in the display, the latest CPUs, and use of SSD as a storage medium also results in low energy consumption and long battery life further helping to protect the environment.
