Lenovo plans to have up to 60% of PCs equipped with touch screens by end of 2013

Lenovo has set a goal of increasing touch-screen PC shipments to account for 40% of all PC shipments by the end of 2013 and may hike the target to 60%, the company said at a January 7 press conference at Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in Las Vegas.

It will be difficult to reach 40% of PCs being touch-screen models and impossible to reach 60% simply because of global touch screen supplies, Taiwan-based PC makers stated. In addition, a high proportion of touch-screen PCs may impact Lenovo's global market share because touch-screen models are significantly more expensive, the makers noted.

However, Lenovo thinks that its leading status with the second-largest global market share can win it priority from touch screen suppliers.

Lenovo unveiled a few new products, including the IdeaCenter Horizon Tablet PC, a 27-inch AIO (all-in-one) PC allowing touch-control by more than two users. The AIO will be launched in the summer of 2013 at US$1,699.
