Toshiba R500 is one of the thinnest laptops. It’s notable for its dimensions 284 x 198 x 30 mm and it weighs only 1 kg. The thickness of the machine is no more than 1,96 cm.
Despite the size, there are plenty of features to offer. There are three USB ports – the one is on the right side of the machine, the other two are on the left side, that enables to use them all simultaneously. You can also find a four-pin Firewire connector, a VGA port, SD card slot and the PC Card slot, a Gigabit Ethernet port. The R500 is equipped with a built-in optical drive, that is only 7 mm thick. Toshiba uses a technology called LED backlighting, which enables to build ultrathin screens. The R500s 12-inch widescreen is less than a quarter of an inch thick. The display itself has a resolution of 1280 x 800. Its driven by the Intels 945GMS chipsets integrated GMA 950 engine. The Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 processor is a ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) chip. The processor’s speed is 1.2 GHz, with cashe memory of 2 MB. It loads 1GB of RAM, but can be expanded to 2GB. Battery life is above average for a machine of that kind.
