Samsung Electronics came up with ultra-compact external hard drives with high capacity. These are called the “S” series external hard drives. There is a 2.5 inch drive S2 Portable and a 1.8 inch HDD S1 mini.

With the Samsung on-board technology we will see a reduction in weight as well as power consumption which will help your notebook battery last much longer while you’re out on the road with the S1 mini/S2 connected. It has an option to go to it’s “sleep” mode whenever the drive is left idle for 10 minutes.

The 2.5 inch drive will be available in 160 GB, 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB capacities. As for the 1.8 inch S1 model it will be available in 120GB and 160GB only. A noticeable benefit of these compact drives is that they are entirely USB-powered and include a handful of expected backup and data protection features
